Venture Partner

My parents are Taiwanese, but I was born in South Africa and grew up in the UK for most of life, before moving to Hong Kong where I’ve lived for most of the last 15 years.

I’ve always been fascinated by technology, studying Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Imperial College and moving on to start my career in the TMT/Private Placements teams in Deutsche Bank in London, working on pre-IPO venture deals until the bursting of the first tech bubble.  I was then transferred to the Industrials team and then later to Hong Kong to be part of Deutsche’s Asia M&A team.

After 11 years of investment banking, I spent the next few years working with various Fintech start-ups – both on the investing and the operating side.  In particular, I worked at Nova Founders Capital, where I was able to work with a number of their portfolio companies such as CompareAsia Group.  I also co-founded Frank Insurance (a Thai non-life digital insurer, later sold to FWD) and Paycelerate (a supply chain financing business) which provided fantastic insight and experience on what it is like to have to build and scale businesses from scratch with all the tough lessons learnt.

I love meeting with and learning from passionate founders – especially the process of understanding new business models and approaches to tackling growth.

I love boxing – so I always try to find a good boxing gym whatever city I’m in. I am inspired by boxers Mike Tyson and Pernell Whitaker, although my current favourite is Canelo Alvarez.

My favourite book is Dune by Frank Herbert and can’t wait to see the new movie. I also like The Hard Thing about Hard Things by Ben Horowitz, more tech-related. In terms of movies, I am a big fan of Three Colours Blue and Gattaca (although if desert island rankings probably more “Team America: World Police” and “John Wick”!).
